Yet another dangerous if seemingly random shooting in the Chilliwack River Valley has Mounties looking for tips.
An RCMP investigation follows a call to police on the night of Feb. 6 by an individual camping on Chilliwack Lake Road near the Fish Hatchery to report a shot fired at his trailer.
Just two months prior, on Dec. 9, a number of campers reported vehicles shot at overnight in the same area.
On Feb. 6, general duty officers supported by the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) attended the site where investigators seized evidence linked to the shooting, according to an RCMP press release issued Feb. 13.
“While investigators believe the vehicle not the occupant was the intended target, it is fortunate no one was injured,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said.
The release, issued seven days after the incident, stated police were canvassing nearby campsites in the area for witnesses.
It was back on Dec. 9 when Jamie Lynn Roycraft was fast asleep in the cab of a Jeep in the Chilliwack River Valley and a bullet penetrated the door of the vehicle about a foot from her head.

“What was supposed to be a nice evening on the [Chilliwack] River turned into a horrible night that almost took my life,” she posted the next day on Facebook.
There were also two reports from campers who say their vehicles were shot at over the same weekend.
As with the Feb. 6 incident, police at the time said they didn’t believe the vehicle occupants were the targets, only the vehicles.
That December incident evoked memories of a bizarre shooting in the Chilliwack River Valley on March 25, 2017. Peter Anthony Kampos, 38, still remains in custody charged with attempted murder in that case that involved a man being shot at in his vehicle.

Kampos is also a suspect in a series of 22 vehicle shootings over a 14-hour period between Kitimat, Prince George and 100 Mile House.
