A new yoga studio, Mantra Spirit Studio, opened its doors on Sunday, August 8 on 2nd Ave in Fernie.
Owner Tricia Clarke calls it a Reiki-infused yoga studio and said she only started getting the studio ready six weeks ago after finding the space while originally intending to open a juice bar.
“It was just white walls, high ceiling, nice and clean and I thought to myself ‘what a beautiful space to do yoga,” said Clarke.
Another benefit of the place for Clarke was a room in the back of the space for her to do Reiki treatments.
Clarke has been teaching yoga for seven years and said she would travel regularly to teach before COVID hit.
“I did my yoga teacher training in Bali and often would go for six months of the year to teach yoga out there,” she said.
“Originally I was hoping to open my yoga studio in front of the ocean in Bali … it’s just kind of shifted now.”
Services offered at Mantra include yoga classes, Reiki treatments and training, drum circles, and kids mindfulness classes to name a few.
“I’m hoping to really empower our community and raise our vibrations and consciousness,” she said.
“I’m hoping to help shift the energy after a year and a half of COVID … from fear into a state of love.”
The studio will offer free meditation and breath work everyday and Clarke said the response so far has been really positive according to Clarke.
“A lot of people have mentioned that they’re excited to have kind of a more spiritually based yoga studio in town,” Clarke said.
Clarke said the studio is a “healing container to come into” and promotes self healing, growth, and expansion and is for everyone regardless of skill level.
“Quite a lot of our classes are actually a more mellow style,” said Clarke.
“These aren’t extend yourself so you’re sore the next day. This is a very nourishing space. So if you’re new to yoga don’t be afraid.”
