Preparations for the Youbou Haunted House and Halloween events at Youbou Hall are already underway.
“We wanted to start off early so that we aren’t rushed in the days before Halloween,” says Vicki Ordano, Events Assistant at Youbou Community Hall.
The annual celebration involves a haunted house, a costume competition with cash prizes, hot dogs served by the Youbou Volunteer Fire Department, and the grande finale, fire works sponsored by Cowichan Lake Recreation and the Youbou Volunteer Fire Department.
Ordano says that they welcome volunteers to help with set up and judging. This year, however, they also need a group to take over the fourth room of the haunted house.
“I’ll give them a hand in any way I can, because I really want to make this good for the kids. Anything that they need, if I can supply it or be here, then I will.”
Ordano also needs help with decorating the first room.
The Youbou Haunted House and Halloween events start at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 31 and are open to anyone around the lake. According to Ordano they get attendees from all over.
“The kids usually have a really great time,” says Ordano. “It’s fun for everybody.”
