Youbou Regatta fun in the sun – results

The 2016 Youbou Regatta kicked off with the Youbou Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s pancake breakfast

The 2016 Youbou Regatta kicked off with the Youbou Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s pancake breakfast, followed by the parade from the Youbou Community Hall to Arbutus Park.

The prize for the best homemade float was award to Cassy’s Coffee House and the Youbou Community Association. Best pet went to Lucy, the dog that marched as part of the Team Canada group. Best pair was Ty Hamilton and Elijah Vaughan, who rode in the parade on a mini ATV and a dirt bike, respectively. The best individual costume went to Patrick Miller with his undersized fairy wings and mini skirt.

Alex Mizak and Odhin Rowe took home first place in the canoe race with Rick Laune and Dan Camele close on their heels. Third place in the canoe finals was Sean and Lena Anderson.

In the kayak race around the floating docks, Julia Martinusen came first in a nail-biting finish against Colleen Smith. The finals got off to a rocky start with one racer’s kayak flipping over just metres from the starting line. Third place was Elijah Vaughan.

The overall first place winner of the Clarence Whittingham Quarter-Mile Swim was Lukas Bloss. Colleen Smith was second place and Alex Mizak third. Jaxon MacDonald was the first place swimmer from the swim program at Arbutus Park.

The Whistle, Splash and Flip triathlon winners were Rick Star, Liam Laurie, Rick Laurie and Giana Camele.

Tyler Falk-Chalmers held onto his first place title in the belly flop competition with Dillon Wilson taking first in the under-14 category.
