Cole Young nearly missed the short round of the second annual Bull-A-Rama rodeo event Saturday on Westside Road.

Banged up after his first ride, the Sexsmith, Alta. cowboy contemplated withdrawing. It’s a good thing he stuck with it as he won the whole thing, riding Duke Nukem for a 84.5 in the short round to collect a $1,440 payday in front of 650 fans at Coyote Creek Ranch.

The win also earned Young the right to ride Big Slim, a bounty bull, which he did to pocket an extra $500. He is the first rider to last eight seconds on the young bull.

There was an international field of more than 30 cowboys at Bull-A-Rama, presented by Winkler Brothers Excavating and sanctioned by Bull Riders Canada. Other riders collecting paydays include Alcomdale, Sask.’s Justin Lloyd ($1,402), St. Albert, Alta.’s Kyle Primeau ($1,254), Penticton’s Chad Eneas ($1,107); Australian Josh Birks ($940) and 150 Mile House’s Reid Lozier ($313).

Riding stock was provided by S&E Bucking Bulls of Kamloops, JRB Cattle Co., operated by Vernon’s Reynolds and Jimmy Bonneau, and by Wade Marchand’s Coyote Creek Ranch.
