A young woman is in critical condition in hospital in Calgary after suffering serious head injuries in a car wreck.
The girl was in a vehicle travelling northbound from Sparwood towards Elkford at around 6:29 a.m. on Friday, June 9, when the vehicle lost control and rolled just outside Elkford.
There were three young men in the vehicle, and the one woman.
All suffered injuries apart from the driver. One man suffered a badly broken arm and was taken to hospital in Fernie.
The RCMP and BC ambulance responded to the scene. The woman was taken to hospital in Fernie, then airlifted to Calgary.
“The occupants of the vehicle were all young adults, coming from a house party,” said Cpl. David Williams from the Elk Valley RCMP. “Speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors, and the matter is still under investigation.”
The RCMP did not release the names of those in the vehicle, out of respect for the family of the woman, who remains in critical condition.
