Youngster injured after bike collides with car

Full recovery expected, Victoria police say

A young girl was taken to hospital Thursday after she collided with a car while riding her bike.

The 11-year-old rode out of a driveway on Harriet Road, between Obed and Logan avenues, at 3 p.m. and was concealed by parked cars on both sides. As she rode out, she struck the side of a passing vehicle.

The girl was wearing a helmet, but was thrown from her bike and hit the pavement. She received head injuries from the crash.

Victoria police Const. Mike Russell said speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident.

“For one, the driver’s been very co-operative and is obviously very shaken up about this,” he said.

Traffic was redirected in the area Thursday afternoon, with the 3000-block of Harriet closed to both lanes.

The girl is expected to make a full recovery, Russell said.
