Good morning Kelowna.
First off the weather. The folks at Environment Canada tell us today will be a mix of sun and cloud but the temperature should reach a mild 14 C. Heading into the weekend, however, it looks like a mixed bag with rain and drizzle expected Saturday with a high of 12 C. Sunday will be a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 13 C.
Sticking with weather, the forecast for the coming winter in the Okanagan is that it’ll be warmer than originally expected, thanks to a substantially weakened La Nina this year.
Local boaters, on the other hand, won’t be as happy. They are about to loose one of the few boat launches in downtown Kelowna, thanks to the redevelopment around Kerry Park, including plans for a new tourism visitor centre and a new hotel at the the foot of Queensway, where the deep keel boat launch is currently located.
Boxers and boxing enthusiasts were having fun Thursday night in Kelowna during a fundraiser at the Laurel Packinghouse. The event raised $60,000 in pledges, ticket sales and silent auction proceeds.
Provincially, if you spend any time in the Kootenays, chances are you may have used the Kootenay Lake ferry north of Nelson. Bowing to public pressure, the government has relented on its plan to move the ferry and relocate the terminal, a move locals said would have cost jobs in the area.
And, with the U.S. presidential election next Tuesday, fears in Canada of a Donald Trump win are growing because some feel, if he wins, he could scrap the Paris climate agreement that comes into effect today.
