A new three-piece mural has been installed at the Castlegar Community Services Society building at 1007 Second St. The mural is a project of the Castlegar Youth Council and has taken over a year to plan and execute.
About 20 youth worked together to create the mural with help from project facilitator Coleman Webb and aboriginal artist mentor Chad Thompson, along with youth council coordinators Zoe MacKay and Michelle Postnikoff. Castlegar Community Services, Columbia Basin Trust, the Vancouver Foundation, Cowan’s Office Supplies, Hair of the Dawg and Kootenay Industrial Supplies assisted in funding the project through grants, discounts and donations.
MacKay was very appreciative of the sponsors and the youth involved. “Special thanks, last but not least, to all of the youth who contributed their thoughts, designs and talent in the making of this mural.” she said. “This visual piece really is about what our youth have to say to the community.”
