Williams Lake youth will get a chance to soar with the birds May 7 as part of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association for Kids event.
The goal of COPA for Kids is to interest youth aged seven to 17 in aviation.
“It’s what pilots do to get the next generation interested in flying,” said Roxanne Bambrick, a pilot and COPA for Kids organizer, of the event held annually at the Springhouse Airport.
This year, five pilots will donate their time and planes.
Youth will have an opportunity to experience flying in planes belonging to Williams Lake Flying Club members that range from Cessna 172s to a Citabria and an Aluscombe taildragger.

At the event participants will have the opportunity to donate to the club’s annual flying scholarship that is awarded to a student pursuing an aviation-related career.
The scholarship is worth $500 and is funded by some of the membership fees paid to belong to the club.
All youth will be able to participate in the COPA for Kids event providing their parent or guardian sign a release form at the event. If parents are concerned about the weather on the day they are asked to call Dave Ireland at 250-392-2421 for more information.
