Police in Port Moody are investigating after a youth was pepper sprayed and shot with a BB gun at at a local lake over the weekend.
Officers were called to Sasamat Lake Saturday (May 11) around 5:40 for a report of a male youth who was shot multiple times with a BB gun and then pepper sprayed, according to a release from Port Moody police Tuesday. He was treated on scene and police say the investigation is ongoing.
It was just one of several incidents at Sasamat Lake over the weekend.
On Friday, just before 7, police responded to a report of a youth who was pepper sprayed at the main beach. Both the victim and suspect, police said, fled the area before officers arrived.
Police also dealt with “hundreds” of intoxicated youth who blocked parts of Bedwell Bay Road, with some attempting to hail rides from strangers.
Port Moody police notified TransLink who sent a large bus to transport the youth out of the area.
The next day, officers were kept busy with traffic gridlock issues and impaired driving. It was one of the first warm weekends of the year, with temperatures reaching highs of 25 C.
“Though these issues are not new to the lake, we once again remind parkgoers to leave the alcohol at home, plan a safe ride home, and to pack their patience,” Const. Sam Zacharias said.
