Spreading the word of music this holiday season, and the memory of her son, Zakk, Kim Blake of the Zattzoo Project encourages folks to visit her window display on Third Avenue to view the Christmas tree decorated with past Zattzoo Project Youth Battle of the Bands contestants.
Blake has decorated the tree in Z’s for Zattzoo and Zakk, her son who passed away in a car accident in 2014 when he was 22.
She has also added photos of musicians to Christmas ornaments who have participated in the Zattzoo Project’s Youth Battle of the Bands.
“It’s more about the kids,” Blake said. “They’re trying to be noticed, they’re trying to get this little bit of attention for a while… and this is some more attention for them.”
Blake said some former Battle of the Bands participants and their family members have been up to visit the tree and have expressed their appreciation to her that it’s there.
The display is located in the window of the Coulson’s building (the former Zeller’s building) at the corner of Third Avenue and Mar Street and will remain there until the week of Jan. 2.
