Zero new COVID-19 cases for Agassiz-Harrison as May data wraps up

BCCDC says only eight cases of COVID-19 in May, making it the lowest month of 2021 so far

For the first time this year, Agassiz-Harrison has recorded zero new cases of COVID-19, making May the month with the lowest COVID numbers in 2021.

According to the latest data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, Agassiz-Harrison is the only local health area in Fraser Health to achieve zero new cases this week. With four full weeks of COVID-19 transmission in the books, May’s total reached only eight cases, a far cry from the previous month’s total of 42 cases.

There have been 155 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the year in Agassiz-Harrison, averaging about 7.4 cases per week.

Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs are in a friendly competition with the remainder of Fraser Health to achieve certain thresholds of vaccination – 70 per cent and above. Agassiz-Harrison hasn’t quite reached the 70 per cent mark and is in a close fight with Burnaby, Langley and Maple Ridge.

Currently in the running to reach the 75 per cent mark first are White Rock, Delta, Pitt Meadows, Port Moody/Anmore/Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and New Westminster.
