Dennis Wesley Brewer

December 8, 1937 – December 3, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Dennis Wesley Brewer. He passed peacefully on the morning of Sunday Dec 3rd at his home in Eden Gardens, Nanaimo, BC.
Dennis was born on December 8, 1937 in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
He is predeceased by his parents Wesley and Mildred Brewer and his brother-in-law Dennis Munro.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Irma, his children Kathy (Rob) and Ken (Ian), his grandchildren Marv and Keegan and siblings Garry (Maureen), Marilyn, and Jen (Ron).
Dennis spent his early years working as a timber cruiser in the forest and then in sales for the Maple Leaf Milling Company. He spent the majority of his career working with numbers; first Traders Group and later as the General Manager of the Terrace and District Credit Union until retirement in 1998.
Dennis was a pillar in his community serving many years as a school district trustee and as treasurer of the local food bank. He was also deeply involved with the Catholic Church. Dennis and Irma lived in Terrace for 42 years before moving to Nanaimo 11 years ago.
Dennis was an avid fisherman and boater and loved teaching first his kids, then his grandkids how to fish. He was a master at finding fish in both fresh and ocean waters. He spent 2 and a half years building his retirement boat the Idlewise and many more years using it to explore the beautiful coast of British Columbia.
He had an amazing workshop where he created wonderful artistic wooden pieces for his family and friends. Dennis also loved to travel and was always planning his and Irma’s next trip. Over the years they visited almost every continent and loved immersing themselves in the local cultures.
Dennis was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. An endearing source of strength to his family, he leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom and resilience. Despite battling dementia, Dennis never forgot the ones he loved or the details of their lives. His caring nature extended beyond his immediate family, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
We appreciate all the incredible help and care that he received both at Kiwanis and finally Eden Gardens. We mourn his passing but his legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his children and grandchildren and the impact he had on those around him. We will move on together comforted by our wonderful memories of a lifetime spent together.
In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations to the food bank of your choice.
A Catholic funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 6234 Spartan Road Nanaimo BC. at 1:00 pm on December 21st.
