We sadly announce the peaceful passing of Doreen in the early morning hours of November 20th, 2023.
Doreen was born on July 3rd, 1927 in Lethbridge Alberta to Sydney and Gertrude Upton, the youngest of three children; Roy, Audrey and Doreen. On March 11th, 1950, Doreen married the love of her life, Douglas Charles Attrell at First Baptist Church in Calgary. They raised 4 children throughout their marriage. Doreen and Doug lived in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Stettler and Houston Texas. They attended Kingsland Baptist Church and in 1976, moved to Texas attending Tallywood Baptist in Houston.
Six years after Doug’s passing, Doreen moved to Nanaimo B.C., fully retiring in 2002. She lived at Origin, Astoria, Wexford and finally the Kiwanis Lodge. She attended First Baptist Church. Doreen became an avid crib and bingo player. Family laughed with mom during the twice weekly Zoom calls; about how many bags of cheezies or chocolate bars she had won during her games. She was very fond of the staff at the places she lived. Doreen was a Toronto Blue Jay fan and would make sure she was in front of the TV during every game they played.
Doreen is survived by her children Jim (Sherry), Peter (Heather), and Trisha. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 9 great, great, grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Sydney and Gertrude, her sister Audrey, her brother Roy, her husband Doug, and their son Kim.
