Joan Lois Norman

August 18, 1927 – November 21, 2023
In loving memory ~
Lois Norman, 96, of Heriot Bay, BC passed away peacefully on November 21, 2023, due to congestive heart failure, with family at her side.
Lois had a zest for life and was a good friend to young and old alike, with a great sense of hospitality whenever someone stopped by for a visit. She enjoyed all sports; was a hardcore Blue Bombers fan and a curling aficionado who thoroughly enjoyed many trips to the Brier; as well as her travels with George to tropical islands and elsewhere. Her clam chowder was legendary.
Raised mostly in Vancouver, Lois became a telephone operator, who moved her young family frequently following George’s construction projects throughout central and northern BC. In 1961, Lois settled in Nakusp and for the next 23 years she worked, was an avid knitter, curled, and volunteered; serving as a School Trustee, District Commissioner of Girl Guides, on the Board of Nakusp Curling Club and the Women’s Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion; a role she would continue upon moving to Quadra Island and was recently recognized with a 60 year pin.
In addition to the 20-plus years she worked at the Heriot Bay Inn, Lois’s passion for building community through service continued whether in leadership roles or the simple tasks of making dozens of eggs into sandwich filling for Legion functions, lunch prep for Quadra Circle as well as volunteering at the blood donor clinics. Lois was one of the longest-standing members of the Quadra Island Branch of the Old Age Pensioner’s, working every summer in the local tourist booth, serving as Treasurer for many years and later in charge of memberships.
Lois was predeceased in 2010 by George, her husband of 59 years. Her son, Mark Norman; daughter Cindy Davies; grandsons Zeph Norman and Raegen Enge (Nuha) have many rich memories of Lois to share with great grandsons Meliq and Zyer.
Her deep laugh, generosity, inquisitive nature, and willingness to just have a good time, shared with friends will be deeply missed!
Gratitude and a deep appreciation for the care and support offered by Lois’s friends especially Wanda, Michel, Nancy, Wolf and the staff at the Evergreen Seniors Home. Obituary-
