Ronald Plecas

August 9, 1948 – November 28, 2023
In loving memory ~
It’s with heavy hearts that the family of Ron Plecas announces his sudden passing on November 28th. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharen, sons; Sean (Lise), Brett (Donna), Jordy, grandchildren; Amelia, Matthew, Cameron, and Owen, sister Sharry (Dave), brother Dan, Aunt Marion and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eldest brother, youngest sister, mother and father.
Ron served in the RCMP for ten years in Northern Alberta, but the bulk of his career was spent working as a process server in Nanaimo and central Island. Ron is remembered for the volunteer work he did as an advocate within Nanaimo’s mental health community. He was a B.C. Schizophrenia Society Mid-Island Branch Board Member and participated on the Nanaimo Mental Health and Addiction Advisory Council. Ron was the founder and President of Open Minds Open Windows. Ron organized six annual concerts at the Port Theater to raise awareness and combat stigma associated with Mental Illness and through Open Minds Open Windows, facilitated a weekly Day Program at Beban Park. In his retirement, Ron enjoyed creating driftwood art, travelling with Sharen and spending time with his grandchildren.
