The following is our latest blog entry to our 60 in 60 challenge. For those of you who missed our October column (see bit.ly/1LqaMVq) Erica and I have embarked on a journey to lose 60 pounds (combined) in 60 weeks (combined). We have weekly online updates and monthly submissions into the Record newspaper. It’s been 12 weeks since we started.
Terry: Welcome to 2016! Here’s something you won’t hear from a lot of people: We lost weight during the holiday season!
Erica: To be more accurate, YOU lost weight.
T: Well, we are a team, and as a team, we lost 0.6 pounds. Honestly, any weight lost during the holiday season is a bonus. We expected to be on the wrong side of zero.
E: Yes. We are now at 33 pounds total weight-loss. But I still don’t understand how you managed to do it.
T: It was the eggnog! I’ve discovered that eggnog is conducive to weight loss.
E: It wasn’t for me.
T: That’s because you didn’t drink enough.
E: Well, you certainly drank enough for both of us.
T: See? I rest my case.
E: Ah, but hold on. You ran an awful lot.
T: Well, there is that. And you ran …
E: … not at all.
T: Hmmm. My eggnog diet might have a caveat.
E: At any rate, we are still on track.
T: I love the way we seem to consistently take turns at carrying the team.
E: But no pressure, right?
T: Well, I’m not one to say next week is your turn, but…
E: … but you just did.
T: Oops.
E: I noticed just how easy it is to gain weight with holiday-sized portions, and less exercise.
T: It just seemed harder to schedule the exercise part in, especially with visitors, and the holiday gym closures. But at least that’s past us for another year now.
E: That’s your advantage over me. The gym doesn’t have to be open for you to run the trails. Although I have to hand it to you; you did get out for a run on Boxing Day, despite the bad weather.
T: Well, there was quite a bit of eggnog consumed on Christmas day. In fact, we went through more ice cream this past week than we have in the first 11 weeks combined. Actually, other than a Dilly Bar in Edmonton, I don’t think we have even touched ice cream since we started this, have we?
E: No, I don’t believe so… but don’t be telling me that ice cream is conducive to weight loss.
T: I may have to indulge for a second straight week, just to test that theory.
E: Or not. It would be nice to lose more than .6 pounds as a team next week. But there are still mince pies in the tin.
T: That’s the culprit. I did not have a single mince pie.
E: Stop it, already.
T&E Happy New Year everyone. And remember, if a healthy 2016 is your resolution, we are proof that it can be done, and it can be fun.
