60 in 60 Blog, Week 21

We could be done by now!

The following is our latest blog entry to our 60 in 60 challenge. For those of you who missed our October column (see bit.ly/1LqaMVq) Erica and I have embarked on a journey to lose 60 pounds (combined) in 60 weeks (combined). We have weekly online updates and monthly submissions into the Record newspaper. It’s been 21 weeks since we started.

Terry: Remember when we used to live in Alberta?

Erica: Yes.

T: And we would drive from Grande Prairie to Edmonton on the weekends?

E: Yes.

T: And we would drive through Spruce Grove on the way to Edmonton?

E: Yes… what are you getting at?

T: Well, there was a sign on the east end of Spruce Grove that we thought was clever.

E: Ah yes. It read “If you lived in Spruce Grove, you would be home by now.”

T: Yes.

E: What about it?

T: That’s how I feel. If we’d only called this column 40 in 40, we’d be done by now.

E: I sense some reluctance to carry on?

T: It really just seems like we are spinning our wheels.

E: The numbers on the scale don’t tell the whole story. Since our last blog, we have lost a small amount of weight.

T: The smallest possible amount on our scale, 0.2 lbs.

E: We have also lost inches.

T: Yes. I’m down to the second tightest notch on the belt that I bought in December. Soon I may have to invest in another new belt. That would be two new belts since we started this.

E: And I was able to get into my “little black dress” for the banquet last weekend, I haven’t worn that dress for a very long time.

T: You looked stunning, and I wasn’t the only one to say that.

E: (Blushing) So now we know what it takes to maintain the weight we are at. To be honest, we attended two banquets last weekend, and we haven’t been particularly dedicated at the gym lately.

T: And I had three chocolate bars.

E: What? Well there you go then, that explains everything.

T: I’m not convinced that two Snickers bars and a bag of M&Ms could account for no weight loss in two weeks.

E: I beg to differ; the proof is on the scale.

T: But we do have to get back to being more diligent about this. The 60 in 60 nation is growing all the time, and while the bluntly honest blog from a couple of weeks ago was funny, reporting on lack of progress will get old very quickly.

E: I’m almost ready to take those pills they offer on the internet…”burn fat while you sleep!”

T: Let’s not be too hasty.  Fortunately, there are no banquets to attend this weekend, so hopefully we will do better.

E: We just have to keep in mind that every pound we lose now accounts for a higher percentage of our total body weight.

T: I hate to blame it on the weather, but the last three weeks we have not been out nearly as much with the dogs, and that accounts for about 10 km less each week.

E: That’s our excuse, and we are sticking to it.

T&E: Sorry to disappoint, we vow to do better next week.
