Road trip for Erica

The following is our latest blog entry to our 60 in 60 challenge. For those of you who missed our October column (see bit.ly/1LqaMVq) Erica and I have embarked on a journey to lose 60 pounds (combined) in 60 weeks (combined). We have weekly online updates and monthly submissions into the Record newspaper. It’s been 8 weeks since we started.

Terry: How was your trip to Grande Prairie?

Erica: It was very good. Lots of visiting with friends and family.

T: Yes, but did you go to a gym?

E: Well, as you recall. I did take my gym gear with me….

T: And I noticed you threw it in the wash when you came home.

E:  Yes. That’s because I actually did use it. I surprised myself and spent almost two hours at the gym on Sunday afternoon! After I got over the shock of the cost of a drop-in visit (can you believe it was $11.90!), I remembered that I still had visits left on my old punch card. So I spent an hour on the treadmill, then I swam 10 lengths, and I finished with a steam and a hot tub.

T: You shouldn’t have mentioned the price. This is a fairly popular blog now, you never know who’s reading it. If local prices go up, you’re going to be blamed. But anyway, good for you for getting in some solid exercise during a holiday.

E: It’s a good job I did. There was lots of visiting and therefore available snacking to be had. I also helped Rachel celebrate her birthday on Monday. I couldn’t let her eat Chinese food and seafood dip on her own. I also couldn’t let her drink coolers on her own!

T: What about birthday cake?

E: Please! I am watching my figure! No cake.

T: How very restrained of you. You’ve had a bit of a setback since you returned however.

E: Yes. I had planned to make up for my excesses on the trip when I got home. However, a nasty infection in my foot put an end to that plan. No gym, and definitely no pool. So this week it was your turn to carry the load.

T: It’s all about teamwork. So let’s get to the good stuff. The weigh-in.

E: Despite my inactivity, we lost 2.2 pounds. Mostly thanks to you.

T: Just returning the favour from last week.

E: You were very active this week.

T: I’ve discovered Nymph Falls as my new favourite running place. It’s off-leash, so Tessa loves it. But I do tend to lose track of time. I have skipped my 15-minute cycles altogether and advanced to 18-minute cycles. I’m covering about 9 kilometres a run now. And I’ve pulled in another notch on my belt.

E: Some of my clothing has gotten looser too….but I don’t think I can say which pieces in print!

T: You’re setting me up, this must be a booby trap.

E: Terry! You just gave it away!

T: Oops. Sorry about that. But I must say, you are looking slimmer.

E: So are you.

T: As we should be, having lost 25.8 pounds in total so far. That’s pretty good for 8 weeks.

E: Very encouraging. Hopefully I can get back on the treadmill soon. The exercise will be nice, but I’m actually missing listening to my tunes!

T: Oh. I thought you were going to say you were missing our time together in the steam room.

E: That too, of course. It goes without saying.

T: Nice save, not.

T&E Signing off for this week.  We hope your journey is going as well as ours, let us know how you are doing at farrell60in60@gmail.com

PS: Avoid the Christmas baking!
