9-1-1 a step forward but B.C. still needs RRAP Program

Open letter to Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad from Vanderhoof resident.

Dear John,

I am one of your constituents and I am delighted that you actually got one of your promises through in 9-1-1 service for Nechako Lakes.

But, interestingly, I have another.

The B.C. government has acquired the RRAP program from CMHC.  But while Canadians from other parts of Canada are enjoying this benefit, British Columbians do not get to partake in this program.

B.C. acquired it in August of this year, yet there is still no plan in place as of today when I called and inquired on the status.

Surely B.C. knew about this in advance of the August takeover date.  What is going on John.  What are you people doing?

When is this program going to be available to British Columbians?

Response from Rustad’s office …

Mr. Summers,

Thank you for contacting MLA Rustad regarding the RRAP Program.

The Homeowner Protection Office, which is a branch of B.C. Housing, will be administering a new home renovation program to promote accessibility for seniors and persons with disabilities.

The details of a new program are being worked out and the program will likely be announced later this fall.  Our office will forward the link to the program’s website once it’s announced.
