Transition Houses – sometimes when a person is being abused they will not leave the abuser because they do not want to leave their pet behind. They think that the Safe Home would not accept pets. Some 1.3 million women experience domestic violence each year, up to 48 per cent will delay leaving in order to save an animal. Pets provide an important personal benefit; for someone who has been abused that loving fur-person helps with the healing process. Pets are family members worthy of being protected. I spoke with the Northern Society for Domestic Peace asking them what happens here in Smithers. If abuse is happening and you need to take your pet, ask there is a plan in place, arrangements can be made.

Met Maryanne from Bend, Oregon and Judy from Lapine, Oregon traveling to Alaska to fish. Since Judy has retired they have already been to New Orleans in April and found it fascinating. This is the first time for Maryanne to come this way; Judy was here 20 years ago. Traveling in another RV was Don and Marilyn Noel with a lovely dog, Ruby Tuesday. Tuesday was the day she was rescued, 13 years ago. Don and Marilyn are from Lapine, this is their first time in this area. The two groups are traveling together. Don is a Roberto Luongo fan, looking forward to watching the game as they travel.
