In this age of a million distractions, I am heartened by the thoughtfulness of those who continue to come together for the sake of others.
Two recent fundraising events remind me of this. On March 8 at South Surrey Arena, two high school teams played each other while also honouring the memory of a longtime sports volunteer who passed away in February. Organizers of the Glenn Zwick Memorial Game collected donations for our hospital as a tribute to him.
A day later, students at Queen Elizabeth Secondary held their Roots and Rhythms fundraising show. It’s an annual event organized by the students, who plan the event, sell tickets, and perform on stage so they can contribute to the hospital.
They are the latest examples of groups giving their time in support of the overall community. Thank you to all who took part in these events and the numerous others that occur regularly in our wonderful city.
