A huge thank you from the Basket Society

In 2018 the Cowichan Valley Basket Society applied for a grant from the Home Depot Foundation in order to carry out a renovation of the main floor washrooms. Happily, the foundation very generously responded with a cheque for $4,000 and, in late 2019, the society started to make plans to put this funding to use.

In early 2020, while shopping around for a contractor to take on the job, we were approached by a team of local contractors who generously offered to complete the job on our behalf for little more than the cost of materials; almost all of the labour to be donated. Needless to say, this extremely generous offer was quickly accepted.

The project was delayed somewhat by COVID-19 closures, however the work was eventually completed during the summer months. Disruption to our daily operation was minimal as our washrooms were closed to the public due to the pandemic. We now have two very nicely renovated washrooms waiting for the day when we will be allowed to return to normal business.

The CVBS would like to publicly thank and recognize all of the local firms that played a part in the success of this project. They are: Home Depot via the Home Depot Foundation; Wikks Construction (lead contractor); J.S. Plumbing & Heating; H.B. Electric Ltd.; Mastercraft Flooring; Creative Woodcraft; and Black Sheep Painting.

We are very grateful to reside in such a generous and supportive community. What a great example of community spirit in the midst of a pandemic.
