Addiction treatment lacking

I feel very sad for all the people too poor to pay for private treatment

I wish B.C. Liberals would just be honest about who they are. For the past 15 years they haven’t cared about poor people with addictions. Now that we’re having an election they say they will give a small sum of money to help with the overdose epidemic which is creating headlines in the news. In the 1990s the NDP government provided free detox and treatment for addicts who needed treatment for this horrible disease.

During the past year my grandson relapsed and needed detox and then treatment. At the time in New Westminster, where he lived, there was a wait list just to detox, and treatment anywhere in B.C. is either very expensive or there are very long wait lists to get in.

Luckily for us, we could get together enough money to pay for private treatment for him here on Vancouver Island, when he needed it. I’m so happy he’s alive and didn’t join so many others who died of overdoses this year.

He now has over one year clean and sober. The money for treatment was well worth it. I just feel very sad for all the people too poor to pay for private treatment who also love their children and grandchildren.
