I am very upset about what is happening in the Surrey School District.
The Surrey school board has suddenly announced a new policy that says any student who has graduated from somewhere else can no longer attend Invergarry Adult Education Centre once they have completed the English foundation program and want to take academic courses required for high school graduation.
The decision was made on Thursday, April 23 and announced to students and teachers the next day.
Everyone in our school was shocked. The new rule went into effect immediately. We were told to go to Kwantlen Polytechnic University where each course is $550.
I’ve been attending Invergarry for a year now, which has been very beneficial to me and I don’t want to change schools. I don’t mind paying for academic courses, but I want to take them at Invergarry.
Why can’t the Surrey school board follow other school districts and allow graduated students to stay in Invergarry and pay for their academic courses there?
