Alarm over councillors’ attitude to local area plan justified

Voters are justifiably alarmed at an attempt led by Municipality of North Cowichan Coun. Christopher Justice to modify the Local Area Plan (LAP). The LAP was developed by broad community consultation wherein many citizens contributed time and effort. Compromises were made, a plan was adopted and residents made decisions based on the plan.

Newly elected councillor Justice says he has problems with the plan and wants changes. This attempt to tinker undermines public confidence in the process. Thankfully Coun. Tek Manhas has observed that the LAP is based on public engagement but now certain councillors don’t like the plan and are rejecting it.
