Allowing euthanasia will discourage research

Dear editor,

We are so fortunate to have St. Joseph’s General Hospital in the Comox Valley, in addition to having a hospice facility attached to it, which provides compassionate care to terminally ill patients without the fear of being euthanized.

As stated by CEO Jane Murphy, in her press release, “the Health Authority allows for faith-based hospitals and institutions to conscientiously object to the provision of MAID.”

Allowing euthanasia will discourage the search for new cures and treatments for  the terminally ill, whereas proper palliative care makes euthanasia unnecessary.

Kudos to President Jane Murphy for her ethical stand.
