About 50 years ago, while attending a UGN conference in Ontario, I was very impressed by an open air, covere neighbourhood ice rink. It was family time at the rink and moms and kids were there.
I was told how hockey teams, lacrosse teams and families, etc. all had their time for use.
It has struck me that instead of borrowing $13 million-plus to build another arena, why not spend a couple of million and build about five or six neighbourhood rinks in the city parks?
It is quite possible they could build one a year on budget or have rinks donated as memorials.

I fully support the letter by Lloyd Atkins that appeared in the paper July 27 regarding a sensible way to settle the school teachers strike.
It’s too bad the principals in the matter aren’t as sensible.
