Amalgamation an answer to conflict concerns

Metchosin mayor's option could provide answers to larger conflict issue

Re: Conflict concerns (News, March 6)

Tri Met, the City of Portland Oregon transit authority, is governed by a seven member board representing each of the  seven districts served. None of the board members are politicians. Could this be to avoid conflict of interest?

If the urban West Shore was part of  an amalgamated  metropolitan city – as the mayor of Metchosin has suggested recently – the recreation facility would be a city unit with no need for additional governance and resulting problems of conflict of interest.
