Anglemont water issues frigten resident

I have been living in Anglemont full time since 2004 and what’s happening is scaring the Dickens out of me. The Class D estimate is used by the regional district for financing. But let’s pretend it’s accurate.

CSRD will discontinue the intake from the creeks and the gravity based system and pump all the water up the hill and then let it flow down again, increasing capacity way beyond our projected needs. The tax increase per lot from about $200 to $850 will cause dumping of many of the 900 marginal lots. In over 40 years only 400 got developed – 10 per year. The boil order has some effect, but it’s only been on for a few years and besides that, you can install your own filter and UV system for about $1,000. Maybe it’s because there is no work and services around? We can’t increase demand, but we can sure kill it by quadrupling (at least) taxes. Think you’re gonna sell when you are too old to drive, after all those dumped lots, high taxes and water rates destroy that little demand? We just can not afford that system.

I don’t to know how to fix the system, but part of the problem is longtime neglect aggravated by too low a water rate and not fixing leaks in a timely manner. And I do know that gravity is free and electricity to pump costs money. Maybe the solution to our problem should include keeping the creeks as our main water supply and just have a small lake water supplement, and forget about expanding beyond the present area. Think about this, insist on exploring cheaper solutions or risk a ghost town.
