Re: Hope positioned for a bright future, Letters (March 21)
Our chief administrative officer, Mr. Fortoloczky, wrote an inspiring letter about Hope’s future. Until today, after Mr. Flaherty’s budget speech was revealed, I would like to have believed that the cream of the crop of Canada’s youth who volunteer in a program that began in Trudeau’s era were part of that vision.
Funding has been cut for Katimavik and I am furious. Those young healthy, smart and respectful people just out of high school are starting their lives meeting other youth, elders in small communities and learning priceless lessons.
I have enjoyed talking to them while working in the Hope Community Garden, at the Art Machine and at Pages Bookstore.
Please citizens of Hope, email MP Mark Strahl and Mr. Flaherty, the federal finance minister to complain. We stand at the precipice of an Orwellian society!
