I moan about this every year when the command comes to move our clocks forward the mandatory hour and all us little lemmings dutifully bow down and rearrange our lives, one more time. This year I thought it was time I voiced my moan and see how many others agree with me.
Does anybody ever consider how completely insane it is to reshuffle time? It’s been proven that suicide and accidents rise during this time so why do we keep doing it? I’ve lived long enough to remember when we didn’t do it. Our lives followed the natural bent of the seasons and we flowed naturally from winter to spring to summer to fall without a hitch.
We live in an age of tremendous stress. Everybody knows it, so why do we deliberately add one more large stress? We could vote on it and if the majority decided to keep it, why not have it year round?
To tell the truth, I’d sooner have that extra hour in the fall anyway. It’s not fun the way the loss of that hour dumps us overnight into darkness at 4:30 instead of 5:30. We don’t get a chance to adapt to it, we just fall into that black hole as if it was good for us. I’m too long in the tooth and too stressed to take up the banner and lead the way but perhaps someone younger and more energetic might read this and decide to take up the cry and deliver us from this hex. But whatever, I’ve had my moan and as for me, I’m not doing it anymore.
All of the clocks and watches in our abode will remain where they are and I will ignore it from now on. I’ll forget and be late somewhere on occasion, but what the hay, that’s not a biggee unless I make it so. Life is for living, not for following nonsensical orders. So, I’ve said it and I’m glad. Rise up, fellow lemmings, and let’s get rid of daylight saving completely and forever, one way or another.
