Apology needed

Resident concerned with the actions of Vernon's mayor and council

I totally agree with Ms. Deaton regarding, “A sad lesson in democracy.” Mayor Sawatzky does indeed owe those of us that attended the meeting on rezoning 3004 39th Avenue an apology.

As soon as we arrived at the meeting, we were handed information regarding the tourist information centre. However, the first thing we were told was we cannot discuss tourist information.

It was very evident very early in the meeting that Mayor Sawatzky and his council, with the exception of Bob Spiers, had no intention to listen to what the people had to say.

It also seemed we had not had final approval from the Ministry of Transportation and it appeared to be a done deal.

I have lived in this great city for the past 47 years. I have seen many blunders made by our elected members, but perhaps this one will win the prize.

I must admit I have not attended as many of these public hearings as I should have in the past. Now you and I both know why.
