In the headline “Errington Leads Population Change in Regional Areas” (The News, June 1) caught my eye.
Actually, Area C of the RDN with a total population of 2,834 achieved a 13 per cent increase in population growth since the 2006 census.
This beats Errington and Area F as the leading population change in local regional areas of the RDN, based on percentages.
Area F, known as the tourist destination “Arrowsmith Coombs Country,” achieved an 11.1 per cent growth rate, while Errington grew 5.1 per cent.
Arrowsmith has a population of 7,422 — the highest of all electoral areas in the RDN and is now the fifth largest electoral area in B.C.
The Arrowsmith Community (Area F) is comprised of the five neighbourhoods of Errington, Coombs, Hilliers, Whiskey Creek and Meadowood.
Based on the 2011 census, Errington grew 5.1per cent, Coombs 16.6 per cent and Hilliers -0.5 per cent. Whiskey Creek and Meadowood, (not included in the unincorporated census), grew a whopping 31 per cent, with the majority of the growth in the Meadowood neighbourhood.
Assuming zero growth in Whiskey Creek, the Meadowood neighbourhood represents 54 per cent of the total population growth in Arrowsmith based on the 2011 census.
