Arena parking challenged

LETTER: New arena limits handicap parking

It seems that being as we are still in the fiasco re: Kin Race Track, the parking for handicap citizens at the arena is less than something to be desired. We now have 12 or so parking stalls in the new front lot but we lost about the same amount plus 10-15 at the back of the arean.

I have made a suggestion to Doug Ross that we should get the original places in front of the arena (east) back plus the new ones on 43rd Avenue. As it is now you have to go about an hour or more ahead of game time or you are out of luck. Extending the new section west would be a disaster as its quite a slope and eventually somebody is going to fall or slip and city will have a law suit. In fact I did see an elderly guy come out of the west door and go down the slope to the lot and injured himself on a car mirror. I notice also that there is no steps to the parking lot from the west exit.

I know the Vipers management is not that happy about it either. Surely the who’s who could come up with a better solution for us old buggers. If you’re one of these handicapped fans and not happy with the situation send an email to smitchell@vernon.ca with your concerns. After 50 years of being involved one way or another let’s take a look at the situation. Thanks for listening.
