J.C. Lecordier’s recent letter to the editor, or should I say childish rant, in The NEWS (Dec. 30, ‘Peace on Earth’) ignores two hard realities: kings are not democratically elected and the peace that he holds so dear comes with a price. And that price is blood.
Peace needs to be defended through strength or it is fleeting at best.
And when legitimate governments ask for our help in repelling enemies of peace (radical Islam), peace-loving nations are obliged to respond. Peace for me but not for you is a selfish peace and easy to advocate from the comfort of a cozy armchair in a sleepy Oceanside town.
Lecordier enjoys the luxury of free expression in a public forum. That came at an enormous cost. Let us honour and support that sacrifice, here and abroad.
