B.C. Ferries needs to cut costs from the top down

Attitudes need to be adjusted, as so many think that they are irreplaceable.

Recent interviews were being conducted on the streets of Victoria. The topic was “What should we do to keep the B.C. Ferries afloat?” Answers included the idea of a casino being introduced, create more shops and shopping outlets, and have a better variety of food.

This is supposed to bring more business? We must be crazy. A simple answer to the problem is to eliminate (or at least reduce) the high-paying manager positions, and lower the wages all around for employees. Attitudes need to be adjusted, as so many think that they are irreplaceable. There are so many people that would take the job (any position) in a heartbeat for a much more reasonable wage. $18/hour is ample for what the workers are really doing. Top guys? 80-90k./year. Why would we need to pay them more? After all, 99% of us have to contribute to the well paying jobs, whether we want to or not.

My attitude to this, which i’m sure many will agree: if you can’t afford to live on $18 an hour, get another job. Many of us have to do this. I truly doubt that there is such a thing as “over worked and under paid” when working for a crown corporation/institution.
