I find it hard to understand the economics of B.C. Ferries.
They are losing money hand over fist because they had put the fares up causing less people to use, or use less, the ferries.
So, what is the answer?
Increase the fares even more.
When I first started work 75 years ago I had to attend an economics class and was taught then, that if you had 100 items, it is best to sell the 100 at 50 cents each, taking in $50, or sell only 75 of those articles at 60 cents each ($45).
The same would go for the ferries.
Surely, it would be better to carry 1,000 passengers at $20 each ($20,000) than 750 passengers at $25 each ($18,750), plus, there would be 250 more passengers to spend their money aboard on food or gifts.
Perhaps B.C. Ferries needs run their business differently.
