B.C. Liberals throw tax dollars after frivolities

Re: That ’70s political show, again (B.C. Views, Mach 30)

Tom Fletcher decides to criticize progressives for being stuck in the ’70s because they dare challenge the economic status quo.

I think Fletcher’s views come from the ’80s – the 1880s, the Age of Robber Barons.

B.C. citizens see right through political spin pumped out by former finance minister Colin Hansen and former premier Gordon Campbell around the HST. The B.C. Liberals decided to give a huge tax benefit to large corporations, and stuck the bill onto the backs of the working-class majority.

Fletcher’s dated view on labour unions as being greedy sounds like it came out of the Cold War. Relax, Mr. Fletcher, communism is dead. Capitalism is not the worry, but unbridled corporate capitalism is. Labour unions helped create Canada’s middle class and advocates for improved workplace safety and liveable wages.

According to Hansen, “B.C.’s recession is over.” The B.C. Liberals certainly are not acting as if we are in fiscal restraint.

Didn’t the MLAs and premier all get large salary increases recently? Why was $6 million in taxpayers’ money spent on the defense of Basi-Virk? Why will taxpayers spend $450 million on a roof for a sports stadium?

Warren Buffet, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, made an interesting and provocative observation recently. He said, “Class war? Yes, there is a class war … and my side is winning.”

Buffet recognizes that the economy is unbalanced, and favours the rich and corporations, and goes on to challenge governments to start taxing the wealthy fairly and end the attack on working people.
