Once again we are hearing about more BC Hydro rate increases and it’s not regarding the nine per cent increase to appear annually for upcoming years.
No, this is a new hike to cover costs of upgrading and/or cleaning up a pollution problem the entity created, one that has already exceeded the organization’s budget sufficient to do the job.
And, with smart metres on the way, we can expect more dipping into our pockets, as occurred or is occurring in Ontario.
Back in Ontario years ago, I recall all the hoopla about converting to electric heating — perhaps it was also promoted in B.C.
When BC Hydro imposed its two tier system our bill (with electrical heating), compared to the same period the previous year, went up 23 per cent.
I shudder to think of how much such a billing will be a year or two down the road.
