Beefs and bouquets

Peninsula readers have a say

We have just arrived home from a delightful stay on Vancouver Island. We enjoyed the scenery and all the beauty but the one thing that impressed us the most was the friendliness of the people. I expressly want to thank the gentleman that came to our aid when we could not get our car started. It was the night of the street fair in Sidney and we came back to a dead battery. This wonderful man checked with many people to see if they had battery cables and when he could not find any, he went all the way home and came back with cables. We were on our way in a few minutes. He would not take anything nor did he tell us his name so I hope he will see this. We are glad to have found that the Aloha spirit is alive and well in Sidney.

Big bouquets and a special thank you to two local businesses who came through for us on my daughter and son-in-law’s wedding day, July 16, on very short notice.

After a cake mishap on July 15, Ooh la la Cupcakes in Sidney were able to make 75 delicious cupcakes and provide a stand for them, even though they were already catering ten weddings on the 16. Thank you for your help, you saved the day! Also a big bouquet and thank you to Russell Nursery, who helped us transform a drab wall into a beautiful, green and lush backdrop for the ceremony, which had to be changed from an outdoor event to an indoor one, due to weather. Your generosity of spirit is truly appreciated.

Thank you, Jorgen and Sonja Andersen, Ian and Denise Brethour

We attend the wonderful summer concerts in Sidney every Sunday. We cannot understand the people in charge allowing a group of happy but extremely poor dancers to block the stage all through the concert. There are some who dance off to the side and do not block the stage. We come to see the concert and do hope something will be done to keep the stage visible for all to enjoy.

Hoping this criticism is productive.

Sincerely, Joan and Don Mills

I was involved in a car crash on Lochside Drive on July 30, I would like to thank the RCMP and the fire dept, ambulance for all they did for me and the other people involved.

A tip of the hat to any beekeeper in the area of Melville Drive and Courser in Sidney. We have just had a crop of cherries bigger than the last 10 years put together. During the few sunny breaks of our cold, rainy spring, our cherry tree was humming with delight. Not only that, but our winesap apple tree is back in fine form as well. The mason bees were almost wiped out by mites this spring, so it must have been the honeybees. Thanks — and I hope your honey season is prosperous.

On June 29 our family dog Luna ran onto Highway 17 behind our house. She was hit by a passing car and unfortunately passed away.  The person who hit her kept driving but many “angels” came to my family’s aid that day.  From the lady with blonde hair and tall boots who stopped her car and brought us a blanket and peace of mind and the two tow truck operators who stopped and turned their lights on to divert traffic, to my neighbors who heard my children screaming and came to console us, the lady who drove around the highway and back again to make sure we were all OK and my best friend and her daughter who were there with us every step of the way.  I want to say a huge thank you because I don’t know what I would have done without you.

It is so nice to know there are angels walking among us.

Thank you so much I appreciate all of you.
