BOUQUET To the entire staff at Walmart pharmacy. Courtesy, professionalism, accuracy, and a friendly hello referring to me by first name each time. They are a shining example of what customer service should be.
BEEF To the people complaining about dogs in stores. I love that some stores allow pets. I don’t make a point of taking my dog shopping, but take her for her walk at the north end of town, then stop in for a purchases I need while up that way. I am trying my best to save on gas, rather than making a double trip. She is well behaved and staff love her. If you don’t like pets, shop at another store.
BOUQUET To Kiwanis Village chef and staff for the great meals and silly jokes. Nice to see the smiles.
BEEF To the cyclists who do not adhere to the signage on the Harbourfront Walkway designating the areas for pedestrians and cyclists and also travelling at unnecessary high speeds. I suggest that cyclists should require warning bells on their bikes as required in many communities. If cyclists want respect from pedestrians and motorists they need to earn it by their actions.
BOUQUET To the lovely man who walks up Departure Bay Road every morning at 5:30 a.m. and waves at every single car and passer by. You make early morning workouts a bit more pleasant.
BEEF To the lockdown leaders. It must be nice when you haven’t missed a paycheque and get to hide at home. We were never in this together.
BOUQUET To the Black Press Media website for publishing up-to-date news on a daily basis by e-mail. It was only through this site that I learned that the dates for COVID vaccinations appointments and times had been updated. Thank you.
BEEF I tried to turn left onto Rosstown Road.The light at Northfield was red. A kind driver in the fast lane stopped well back to let me in but two younger drivers in the slow lane kept advancing blocking my path. I had to wait through another light to make my turn.
BOUQUET Thank you to 911, Nanaimo paramedics and emergency staff a NRGH. We all tried our best but it was not to be.
BEEF To the beefer complaining about woodstoves. Why don’t you stop shaming individual families for heating their homes cheaply and focus your energy at the real bad guys instead? Oil and gas companies and the governments who support them are the actual source of meaningful carbon emissions.
BOUQUET To the folks who started a positive Facebook group for our little community. This is a welcome addition and a lovely way for us to stay in touch.
BEEF To the RCMP for spending so much time on Oliver Road for some reason. I sure don’t see them giving tickets out for old ladies with dogs on their lap. Maybe give people tickets for not using turn singles then they’d use them. Just a thought.
BOUQUET To Safeguard Storage. I drove up 25 minutes after they closed and they were still willing to help me get set up for a storage locker. It made a very stressful day so much easier. Thank you so much.
BEEF To the customers of family restaurants who talk in loud voices to their table-mates with a continuous stream of F-bombs. You show a total lack of situational awareness. Take your conversation to the bar, there’s no place for it where children and families are present.
BOUQUET To the service department at Harris Kia. I have been getting my vehicles serviced there for over 10 years with no issues. Recently my car was acting up and I called them in a panic – not only did they squeeze me in on a very busy day, they fixed the issue at no charge and even offered to wash and vacuum it for me. I highly recommend this service department.
BEEF To the person who cut me off in line at Terminal Park and then had the audacity to condescendingly ask for physical distancing. Being polite is always better than being rude. Do better.
BOUQUET Big bunch of sunflowers to the lady in the Terminal Park Starbucks drive-thru who bought my order. Made my day. I’ll be paying it forward.
BEEF While out for a walk on my lunch break at NRGH, I noticed a man who had apparently toppled out of his wheelchair and was lying on Boundary Avenue near the emergency department. I was shocked as numerous people casually walked by and ignored him. Thank you to the kind gentleman and others who did stop to offer help.

BEEF The reason why Nanaimo has a high incidence rate is that a lot of oil field workers commute to Fort Mac to where there is a high rate of transmission. They should be tested before coming back into town. These are the age group, 20-40-year-olds, who I know get together in larger groups and unfortunately it’s completely understandable being single or away from your family.

BEEF To the construction workers for spreading not only construction waste but their lunch and coffee garbage in the Wakesiah area. And a double beef to the city bylaw officer who never got out of his vehicle to see exactly what all the neighbours who use the park see.
BOUQUET To the big box home decor store that allowed me to bring my dog in. I was hesitant to leave her in the car since it was sunny day and leaving her at home alone was not an option due to her recently injuring her back. There were half a dozen other furry friends shopping at the same time, all well behaved and grateful not to be left alone in a car. Bringing her shopping with me is not a regular thing, I avoid it, but I’m grateful for the option in a pinch.
BEEF I see you have deemed yourself privileged and do not need to follow the rules of the road. This goes to all your speeding parents dropping off your spawn at Pleasant Valley school. Also, why are you allowed to use your phone while driving? We can see you trying to hide it, driver of the black Kia, and speeding after you drop your kids off is just as bad. You’re on camera.
BOUQUET To the wonderful, caring and compassionate staff at Woodgrove Manor for making our father (affectionately called ‘uncle Bob’) so comfortable, active and connected in his final year. We are forever grateful.

BEEF To the City of Nanaimo’s garbage pickup schedule. The times that people may need it the most are the times that they decide to add extra days off, like every holiday. No pickup until long into the following week.
BOUQUET To the staff at Quality Foods on Bowen Road, especially to Bev M.; she is an amazing supervisor. I would name the whole staff, only not enough space to. Keep up the ‘awesome possums’ job guys; you rock.
BEEF To the truck drivers who are too lazy to remove the trailer ball hitch after using the garbage trailer once a year. Keep damaging others cars in the tight parking lots. All of our insurance will just go up.
BOUQUET To Holly, Bonnie and Max W. of Save-On-Foods at Country Club Centre. It was definitely a service-with-a-smile experience. Fresh flowers, chocolates, an Easter ornament and a magazine, all lovingly wrapped in basket for my mom, quarantined in a nearby seniors home. This is the second time Bonnie has gone that little bit extra for me and I will definitely be back.

BOUQUET Thanks to the couple on Willowmere Crescent who made our day by leaving a special Easter treat for us. We have been delivering the News Bulletin for three months and this was such a great surprise.
BEEF Shame on those vacant house owners who let their properties become derelict. You bring down the whole neighbourhood and in turn the whole community.
BOUQUET to Coun. Sheryl Armstrong. Finally an article in our paper that makes total sense. Our judiciary system is totally failing us. We can no longer feel safe out in our communities or even within our own homes. We also need to see more mental health facilities where people can get the help they need. It is time for our government to take action.
BEEF To people who apply for jobs through online sites but never show up for interviews or to start work. They only apply to show they are looking for employment while collecting their employment insurance. We will remember your names and so will EI.
