BOUQUET To Ross and Christine at the Harewood Co-op gas bar for contacting me after I dropped my pre-paid gas card near a gas pump.

BEEF To the two realtors making jokes on Facebook about employees making time and a half on stats and how you going to show a house on a long weekend somehow means you should, too. Sorry the upwards of a million-dollar salary isn’t enough.

BOUQUET To the lady with brown hair and pinky-purple lipstick that I started talking to on the Woodgrove bus. It really made my day when you started talking to me.

BEEF To robot callers calling during meal times.

BOUQUET To Buddy from Royal LePage for being such an awesome and respectful property manager. He was at my house within 10 minutes of me reporting my broken hot water tank, and dealt with the issue while I got ready and went to work.

BEEF To selective water conservation. We aren’t allowed to wash our cars or water our lawns, yet I saw a couple of people washing a store sign.

BOUQUET A dishonest and incompetent contractor ruined my home and cost me my life savings. Through it all, the building inspections department at the City of Nanaimo was consistently fair and did its best to be considerate.

BEEF To those who threw butts into my dry garden on Budehaven Drive. We back onto Planta Park.

BOUQUET To Rita of Jumping Jiminy’s in Nanaimo. You have just the right attitude around the kids – they know they can play and have fun, but must follow the rules.

BEEF Politicians who claim they lower taxes while running deficits. Deficits are the coward’s way of raising taxes on future generations.

BOUQUET To Stacey, a stranger on the bus, who noticed that an old lady was melting and offered me a bottle of cool water. You have earned your wings, Stacey.

BEEF To the fries place. If your kindness to giving out change only goes to the first two people who ask, you shouldn’t bother at all. You’ll never know how big of a tip you lost by turning this third customer away.

BOUQUET To Margaret and all the other volunteers at the hospice thrift store.  When they saw an old lady melting from the heat, they offered me water and a ride to my destination.

BEEF To the company power washing an entire apartment building for more than four hours. A building can be washed in the fall when water isn’t being conserved by everyone else.

BOUQUET To polite smokers. I am driven everywhere and in nice weather I like to wait outside. Almost every smoker who sits near me asks if I mind if they smoke.

BEEF Some doctors and specialists lack a good bedside manner but do their receptionists have to behave the same? Please treat us like humans and act like one yourself.

BOUQUET To Terry and his staff at Marshall Plumbing. Thank you for saving the day when our dishwasher leaked and our hot water tank went in one month.

BEEF To the health-care contractors who continually provide and support uneducated and inexperienced managers. How do you expect your employees to provide excellent care to elders when your managers disrespect employees rather than provide positive leadership?

BOUQUET To Will in the Rona lumber yard. Many thanks for unjamming the Jeep door as well as handling my landscape tie requirements. You went above and beyond with a friendly smile.

BEEF To the person whining about the neighbour blowing some yard waste into the street. Windy days must be particularly hard for you.

BOUQUET Best news ever to hear there is finally a new care director at a senior’s facility. She seems so very nice indeed.

BEEF To the irresponsible parents who let their son throw rocks that injured a picnicker at Piper’s Lagoon. I had a large, painful goose egg on my head for days.

BOUQUET To world-famous André Rieu for his latest brilliant concert at our Galaxy Theatre. Extreme happiness.

BOUQUET To Barrons Appliance who sold us a stacking washer/dryer. Your confidence and information as so helpful and kind.

BOUQUET To Ian Thorpe for his sports column, which names youngsters in various school sports. It must give self-esteem to them and to their families.

BOUQUET To the gentlemen at Country Grocer Southgate who paid for a blind elderly man’s groceries.

BOUQUET To all the responders to my wife’s fall on the Westwood Lake trail, especially the nurses and paramedics Martin and Steve. She is recovering well.

BOUQUET To Aaron, manager at Highland apartments, for being helpful, friendly and efficient for the residents.

BOUQUET To Don, Mike, Brad and the guys at Midas on Terminal Avenue for the wonderful way they have kept on my Focus over many years.

BOUQUET To my coworker at Nanaimo hospital thrift store for going above and beyond to help a woman find the perfect wedding dress.

BOUQUET To the Good Samaritan who found my keys and turned them in to Save-On-Foods Country Club. Angels of gratitude.

BOUQUET To Save-On-Foods for tracking me down to return my keys. I am so grateful I had the tag on my ring.

BOUQUET To the young people in Ricky’s who paid the bill for the senior couple. Your kind, unexpected gesture will be paid forward.

BOUQUET To Lorna at the Bowen Road McDonald’s for allowing two very tired and hot runners to refill their water bottles. It was the best water we have ever tasted.

BOUQUET To Jamie Logan at Nanaimo Transit for making it easier and much safer for handicapped people with walkers to ride the bus. Your assistance getting a safer stop at Hillcrest is very much appreciated.

BOUQUET To those who are conserving water.
