BOUQUET To the lovely ladies at Rock City Life Labs, especially Lynn (Kevin’s mom), who took such good care of my daughter, and Betta for returning my call so promptly.

BEEF To the fast food outlet that doesn’t go with advertisements on TV promoting $5 meals. If it’s advertised, why don’t you honour it?

BOUQUET To ambulance and fire crews that responded to my 911 call for my son who had a seizure. Many thanks for your professional, compassionate care.

BEEF To all the drivers who don’t know the difference between night and day and blast their vehicle sound systems 24/7.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo Yacht Club and the fish and game club for a great fishing adventure and barbecue for the blind.

BEEF To the logging truck drivers on Nanaimo River Road. You ignore the posted speed limit and drive your fully loaded trucks down the middle of the road. You are the so-called professional drivers, so how about leading by example?

BOUQUET To the great staff at Slegg Lumber. They are always willing to cut small pieces of wood for me.

BEEF To the person who dropped a cigarette stub on the trail in Oliver Woods. What a fire hazard.

BOUQUET To Sam’s Optical for an exceptional service. Thank you for doing such a good job with my glasses.

BEEF In this unusually dry year, why is it that vegetable gardens suffer with water restrictions while people are still washing their cars and sprinkling sidewalks? This doesn’t make sense.

BOUQUET To all who save used postage stamps for me. We were able to give $6,700 this year to cancer. Much appreciated.

BEEF To the irresponsible dog owners who feel it is OK to throw bags of their animal’s waste into people’s garbage cans, hedges, trees, driveways, etc. Stop burdening other citizens with your animal’s waste.

BOUQUET To Mike and his amazing mechanics at Top-Lite auto service. Finally after many disappointing experiences I have found a company with integrity.

BEEF To the pilot of the crotch rocket racing and swerving along Cedar Road – if you harass other drivers, expect the same treatment. I expect to hear that you received a Darwin Award in the next few years.

BOUQUET To Sandra who handed me a lucky $20 at the casino. I won, too.

BEEF To the drivers of open pickups who use the box as a garbage can that self empties onto the bypass every day. Clean up your act and your truck.

BOUQUET To Rachel, manager at Original Joe’s, for providing exceptional customer service.

BEEF To the ignorant person who keyed my friend’s car last Friday. Your racism has no place. And it was his birthday of all days.

BOUQUET To the kind man Ken White who saw us with our hood up on the side of the river and spent his next half hour retrieving jumper cables and getting our car started. You restore my faith in humanity.

BEEF To the pub. I tweeted a concern and they blocked me on Twitter. I guess if that’s the way you want to do business. #HowRude

BOUQUET To Cedar Tire and David Thompson optometry clinic, especially Sara, for such courteous, friendly, kind services to a newcomer to Nanaimo. I will certainly be a client of both for a long time to come and recommend both.

BEEF Why can police track down child pornographers, which is good, but are unable to track down fraudsters, pretending to be Canada Revenue Agency employees?

BOUQUET To Yvonne Visser, RMT, for her incredible knowledge and ability and for all the volunteer work she does for Nanaimo.

BEEF To the store for lacking customer service skills and knowledge. Own up when you’ve made an error instead of carelessly charging your customers for it. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

BOUQUET To the staff from the Real Canadian Superstore for coming out to our McGirr Fun Fair and working our barbecue for us. Every year we are lucky to receive your support for our biggest school fundraising event.

BEEF Please remove those eyesore statues above the library downtown. What an embarrassment to our beautiful area. It looks ridiculous.

BOUQUET To the staff, students, and parent helpers of École Quarterway who pulled off such a spectacular performance at the Port Theatre. I can’t wait to rewatch it when my copy comes home.

BOUQUET To all who were part of and came out to our Ride To Conquer Cancer fundraiser. Thank you to Nanaimo Curling Centre, Milner Group, diabetes association, Linda and all the crafters who donated time, items and services.

BOUQUET To Kyle at Blackapple Cellular. You went above and beyond to help me replace the screen on my phone. I will definitely be spreading the word about your wonderful customer service.

BOUQUET To all the people on the trail who helped me get my dog home when he fell and couldn’t walk at Ammonite Falls, especially Phil at Fountain Tire who came back with an ATV and drove him back to our car. He is doing great.

BOUQUET To the hardworking flag persons working on the many projects that are taking place this summer. Keep smiling and ignore the idiots.

BOUQUET To Woodgrove Chrysler parts, Joe Fortier and crew, for such courteous, knowledgeable, kind, pleasant and quick parts and service provided to me over my Dodge Dakota’s lug nuts.

BOUQUET to our Nanaimo school bus drivers keeping our kids safe every day, all year long. And you talk about distracted driving – wow, amazing safety record.

BOUQUET To all the people who let us use their cellphone when we had a dead battery in the Costco parking lot. And thank you to the super nice couple who gave our battery a boost.
