Black lab warning

For many years I have handed out dog treats on a morning walk in Qualicum Beach. Hundreds of dogs, including pit bulls and rotties, have enjoyed these snacks.

On Feb. 19, I met a pleasant-looking dog which resembled a smallish black lab. I was about to ask if treats were permitted when the dog leapt up and bit my hand. It took several stitches to close the resulting wound.

Aggressive dogs are rare and they typically give a warning by their posture, growling, etc. Dogs which attack without warning are even rarer, and much more dangerous, so residents should watch out for this one.

If it has already caused other problems, these should be reported to the town authorities at 250-752-6921 or at bylaw@qualicumbeach.com.

Think of what could happen if a child approached this dog.
