There are a few people who are spearheading the push to make 100 Mile House a more attractive community to live in, visit or consider moving to.
They are members of the local Communities in Bloom (CiB) committee and they are working hard to get it off the ground, so it will become an annual program.
Communities in Bloom is a competition and 100 Mile House will be going up against similar-sized municipalities.
To be involved in the competition, there is a rigorous set of rules that must be followed.
And this is why it’s so much hard work to get started, so we tip our hats to the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce and the District of 100 Mile House for forming the partnership to make it happen.
However, it’s neither the Chamber’s nor the District’s responsibility to make it happen all by themselves.
It is a task that all of us must put our shoulders to if 100 Mile House is going to be successful.
Communities in Bloom is not just about planting a few pretty flowers and mowing our lawns for a couple of weeks before the judges arrive to compare us to other municipalities.
More importantly, CiB is about developing community pride and, definitely, that is a worthwhile endeavour.
And we can all play a role in its development. We need only think, “neat and tidy; bend down, pick it up and put it in a trash can.”
If we only do that when we’re out and about, and make sure we’re not littering, we will help reach the goal of being the best bloomin’ community in the province.
Fortunately, the district does a great job cleaning and brightening our municipality and business owners know how important it is to attract customers.
Now, it’s up to us to do our bit, and we can have a bit of fun doing it by entering the friendly residential competition to see who has the best gardens, landscaping, yard design and tidiest block, etc.
Take a few minutes and go to the district’s website at www.100milehouse.com and check out the Communities in Bloom links on the front page.
Let’s show our pride.
