Boating heroes save the day

I wanted to acknowledge two men, nothing short of heroes in my mind, who rescued my son-in-law’s border collie at Cattle Point last week.

While I was walking her, the dog swam out from the rocks chasing geese, then lost its bearings and headed out to sea.

When they realized the situation, the owner and friend of the aluminum fishing boat, Backyard, put their boat back in the water, motored out, came alongside the dog – who was by then nearly halfway between the boat ramp and the channel markers – and scooped it up, saving the day.

When I asked their names and phone numbers to thank them in some way, as we returned to the boat ramp, they just shrugged, smiled and told me that I was kindly welcome.

What a stroke of luck for Pixie, the young border collie, that those two men were on hand.

Pixie has definitely used up one of the lives that dogs, never mind cats, have.

The two men joked that they hadn’t caught any fish that day but at least they didn’t come back empty-handed.
