Booms better than screeches

I’ve moved to White Rock and am far more bothered by the loud sounds of seagulls that start screeching at 5 a.m. than by anything experienced while living amongst farms in the Fraser Valley.

It is deafening.

My neighbours tell me that there have never been so many seagulls in town till this year.

Is there perhaps a garbage disposal problem? Something is drawing them to the centre in droves.

If the bird cannons are banned in the Surrey farms, please bring them down here… I would welcome them.

By the way, to your reader who complained about the bird cannons, we farmed blueberries in Chilliwack and put up speakers emitting predatory bird sounds rather than use a cannon, and yet a neighbour managed to complain about that.

Not everyone can afford acres of netting, and reflective tape just doesn’t work.

The birds are getting too smart.

Off-shore blueberries? Or local NIMBY ones…
