Branding is for horses and cattle!

“Willie’s Puddle” is the biggest attention getter you will ever come up with.

Jim Fraser’s letter to the editor brought this to memory. I was already living in Williams Lake when Jim Fraser came to build his future here.

Everybody who has ever travelled through the Cariboo, or knew someone who had, even from different parts of Canada, or from different countries, plus the entire rodeo world knew Williams Lake was Willie’s Puddle — with fond affection, I might add.

There was another attention getter at that time, 1958 was the year. If you lived beyond Hope, you were beyond hope (Hope, B.C. that is).

I truly believe our mayor and council are beyond hope (not Hope, B.C.).

They are trying to reinvent the wheel, spending tax payers’ money on a foolish project.

That money could have been spent on advertising around the world on what we already are.

There is an affliction that affects some politicians sometimes, and some politicians all the time.

No matter how ridiculous the idea they have come up with, or how many people are against the idea, they press ahead and continue wasting tax payers’ money. Is there no one in the Williams Lake city administration to stop this madness?

Take a deep breath and say stop! — Not another penny.

A bunch of school children could have come up with a better idea than brand or be branded.

We brand cattle and horses in the Cariboo. We are historically early B.C., Canada.

We have roads to the goldfields; the oldest surveyed townsite outside of Victoria is at Quesnel Forks; the oldest cattle ranch in B.C. Alkali Lake; we also have the  biggest cattle ranch in the world, Gang Ranch.

We are the rodeo capital of B.C., the logging capital of B.C., and the mining capital of B.C. We have the most beautiful railroad in the world: the P.G.E.

You could fill pages of historical first points of interest for the world.

Talk to the old pioneers about your branding.

They are the builders of the heart of the province. (Old cowboys know that if a horse gets the bit between his teeth you cannot turn him or stop him).

Mayor, you and the council have the bit between your teeth.
